Orrington, ME Lodging, Real Estate, Travel & Visitor Information
First settled in 1770 by Colonel John Brewer, Orrington, Maine was the first incorporated town in Penobscot County. Orrington started out as part of Kenduskeag Plantation before incorporation in 1788. Orrington may be one of the only towns in Maine to get its name as a result of a spelling mistake. It was originally meant to be called Orangetown, after a town in Maryland, but Orrington was written incorrectly in the record books, and the name stuck.
