History of the Beachmere Inn

The oceanfront Victorian summer cottage built by Charles Chamberlain Hoyt in the late 1800’s  was named “Beachmere.” Hoyt also built three cottages that still exist on Beachmere Lane and another cottage on the present Colonial Inn.

In the late 19th century, a period when Ogunquit was emerging as a popular summer destination for artists, writers, and vacationers. The Inn was founded in 1936 by Alice Morrow. Originally a simple boarding house, the Beachmere quickly became known for its warm hospitality and stunning ocean views.
