Vanceboro was originally incorporated as a town in 1874 and was named after William Vance, a large landowner in the area and a member of Maine’s Constitutional Convention in 1819. Vanceboro operates a 24-hour customs station on the American side of the St. Croix-Vanceboro Bridge.
