Alna was originally settled in 1760 and introduced Maine’s first fish hatchery in the early 1800’s. The Sheepscot River runs through the town, which named itself after the Alder trees that grow along the river banks. One can visit the old Sheepscot Railway Station, which is now the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Heritage Railway Museum.
