Organic Natural Maple Syrup

There are three main factors to consider when storing pure Maple syrup; air, time, and temperature. The best place for storage is in a cool dry place such as the refrigerator, especially after being opened. Since pure maple syrup does not contain preservatives time is a factor and being a natural product will eventually go bad.

There are measures that can be taken in order to prolong this from happening for as long as possible. First, make sure that the cap is on tight and there is no excess air is getting in. Air will cause the syrup to go bad faster. It is better to store maple syrup in glass or tin since neither of these materials breathes, unlike plastic.

Maple syrup in glass or tin can be stored for up to a year in the refrigerator. Re-package any pure maple syrup that is originally packed in plastic if it is to be kept for more than three months. The best way to do this is to put the maple syrup into a clean 1/2 pint or quart glass jar, a minimum of one inch from the top, and place it in the freezer. Properly prepared maple syrup will not go bad.
