Southern Maine in the Movies

40 West (2011)
This dramatic thriller was filmed in Hollis and Buxton. Wayne Newton, Jennifer Nicole Porter and Scott Winters star in this movie about a blues musician who finds herself held hostage by her ex-inmate husband.

The Living Wake (2007)
This dark comedy was filmed in Kennebunkport. Mike O’Connell, Jim Gaffigan and Jill Larson star in this movie about the final day of a self-proclaimed artist and genius.

Empire Falls (HBO movie) (2005)
The story is set in a Maine mill town and was filmed in and around Waterville, where Richard Russo lived when he taught at Colby College. Other Maine towns will also be the setting for scenes from the movie, including Kennebunkport. This was also filmed in Isleboro and Lincolnville.

Mr. Barrington (2003)
This acclaimed film was shot in Buxton and Parsonsfield. Jennifer Nichole Porter, Eric Schweig and Brian McCardie bring the story of Lila to life in a breathtaking manner.

Jumanji (1995)
Jumanji was filmed in part in North Berwick and Kennebunk, south of Portland, Maine, near the New Hampshire border. The North Berwick Woollen Mill on the bank of the Great Works River, an historic landmark in North Berwick, became the Parrish Shoe Factory. Also filmed in part in Keene and Swanzey, NH.

Bed and Breakfast (1992)
It was filmed in Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise, and Wells. This movie is a romantic comedy about three generations of women (Talia Shire, Nina Siemaszko, and Colleen Dewhurst) running a failing bed and breakfast. Roger Moore also stars in this film.
