Scarborough Downs Harness Racetrack was once a popular southern Maine attraction. Scarborough Downs offered live harness racing action, generally from March to December. Scarborough Downs is no longer in operations.
The Downs in Scarborough Maine is a now a mixed-use development with plans to become home to a modern town center with supporting residential and commercial elements.
At one time this was the largest and most active racetrack in the state of Maine and was home to New England’s fastest half-mile track. The Scarborough Downs track was designed by Charles Coon and Sons. The track has drawn rave reviews by horsemen throughout its fast-paced history. Located at U.S. Route One in the picturesque town of Scarborough, Maine, eight miles south of Portland.
