Maine Humorist: Tim Sample
So what the heck is “Maine Humor” or “Downeast Humor”? In order to answer that question we must first examine some of the wit and entertainment of a few of Maine’s most talented humorists.
There are literally dozens of Maine jokesters, tale-tellers, comedians, comics, and clowns but what we are focusing on is true Downeast Yankee humorists in the tradition of “Bert & I”. With that goal in mind, we present a great Maine humorist and comedian, Tim Sample.
Tim Sample is probably Maine’s best known comedian. Sample was recruited by Charles Kuralt of CBS in the early 1990’s to do entertaining and humorous content for CBS Sunday Morning which was hosted by Charles Osgood. Tim is a Maine native, born and raised in Boothbay Harbor, and once worked in the shipyards and on a lobsterboat.
Tim Sample has been recording “Downeast Humor” since 1979. His first album was produced by Paul Stookey of “Peter, Paul and Mary” fame.
Tim Sample remains busy, he’s written and illustrated books about “Downeast” humor, hosted and appeared on dozens of national and regional TV specials, and has received many prestigious awards in the field of advertising. Sample continues to perform an average of over 100 concerts and personal appearances annually.
