Portland Cape Elizabeth Maine Lighthouses
Portland Head Light (Cape Elizabeth)
Portland: Commissioned by George Washington in 1791, this is Maine’s first lighthouse. Located near the entrance to Portland Harbor. View over 200 Casco Bay island from the hurricane deck. This lighthouse is accessible by car and visited by thousands each year.
Portland Breakwater Light (Bug Light)
Portland: This privately owned lighthouse was designed after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, Greece.
Spring Point Ledge
South Portland: A white conical tower on a black cylindrical pier – called Spring Point Ledge. Located on the West side of the channel in Portland Harbor.
Cape Elizabeth Light
Cape Elizabeth: This lighthouse may be reached by car. Originally called “Two Lights”, now only one light is operational.
Wood Island Light
Biddeford: This lighthouses marks the entrance to Saco Bay and was built in 1808. It was rebuilt in 1858. It’s conical white tower is made of granite blocks standing 49 feet high.
